Rewarding activities for happy, healthy workers: new platform
At Compincent, we’re experts in processes and systems that financially reward salespeople and other staff for strong professional performance against a range of targets. Our business exists because connecting rewards with behaviour is a proven way to get results.
We believe physical and mental health and wellbeing are critical factors for a high performing workforce. There’s a proven link between good health, reduced absence and productivity, evidenced by research, including the CIPD Wellbeing at Work report and McKinsey’s Working nine to thrive study.
The traditional bonus and incentive schemes we work with every day tell us conclusively that people change what they do when a reward is attached. That’s why we’re embracing holistic rewards and championing the benefits of a positive work culture, incentivising employees to achieve their own personal targets as well as team and professional targets.
Inspiration and interaction
These days, many people in sales and other functions work from home or client sites. Inspiring and opening the mind is key to emotional wellbeing. In a physical workplace, you talk to people about random topics and share news, concerns, tips and laughter. But interactions and conversations that traditionally took place round the water cooler in your main office location are no longer a feature of working life for many of us. The social media platforms that have become lunchbreak substitutes are narrow echo chambers that can create anxiety and foster unhelpful attitudes.
Rewarding positive activities and behaviours can increase people’s propensity to act in the interests of their own wellbeing, helping to embed good habits and balanced attitudes into our work and lifestyles. And it’s not all about joining a gym. McKinsey’s research revealed that social interaction and positive experiences at work are at least as important as being physically fit.
Of course, financial remuneration still matters a lot. But there’s no point in paying the best salary and highest bonus if you have a toxic work culture and employees are deprived of opportunities to nourish their whole selves. Building health and emotional wellbeing opportunities and rewards into your employees’ experience supports a positive culture and helps workers achieve a sustainable balance in their lives.
A healthy lifestyle balance
Working at home and flexible working are irreversible after-effects of Covid, enabled by the latest digital collaboration technology. There are advantages to decentralised and virtual workstyles, but it’s still important that employees are engaged in the company culture and are managing their work-life balance, both in their patterns during the working day and across their whole lives.
Big companies are beginning to address these issues with more sophisticated, holistic rewards and wellbeing programmes and infrastructure. But it’s harder for smaller companies to introduce these practices at a manageable cost, in order to reap the productivity and motivational benefits.
Compincent’s new reward platform will offer activities and content aimed at broadening the minds and experiences of your employees to increase their well-being. Their own self-guided content absorption will mirror their own existing interests and pursuits, so simply giving them free time isn’t enough.
We’ll offer non-work-related, interactive online sessions, aiming to stimulate minds and provide opportunities that are missing in lone working arrangements. There will be networking opportunities, connecting workers in different functions and fields. There will be intercompany competitions and challenges. There will be updates and overviews designed to replace the office grapevine and place-based exchanges of business and general information. There will be soft skills coaching and refreshers, giving workers the chance to learn informally from peers, as they would have done sitting side by side.
Employees will earn certificates of attendance at the sessions, which enlightened employers will reward as an essential component of a balanced working life.
